*Free pickup is for upholstered furniture with minor wear and tear that has no severe damage and is NOT floral or patterned. Non-permanent stains, and pet hair are acceptable and items can have 1 or 2 minor (smaller than a quarter, or larger if along a seam) rips or tears. See our possible charges page for reasons we may need to charge.
Couches in a "more used" condition than described above is subject to a recycling fee. We then recycle raw materials from your couch to make upcycled goods or use them to refurbish and repair other couches.
Because we may not be able to sell upholstered furniture in a "more used" condition and will certainly have to expend more time and effort getting it into the most sale-able condition possible, we charge a fee depending upon the number of seats the item has. There are often cases when we are unable to refurbish a couch to sale-able condition. In this case we do recycle parts or all of the couch. Sofa Recycling Program
What do we do with your couch if we are unable to refurbish it for resale? Couches that we are unable to bring your couch back to life, all is not lost! Our sofa recycling program helps keep couches out of the landfill.
Lets say we get a leather couch that a dog has torn the seat cushions to shreds. It can cost thousands to reupholster an item like this, so we cut the leather upholstery off of the arms, sides, and back of the couch. We then turn this raw leather into high quality handbags, wallets and cardholders. We cut the leather into the proper patterns and send them to American Made Apparel Manufacturing in Aurora, Colorado where there are professionally sewn into beautiful finished products.
While upcycling raw materials is our passion, it is not always feasible to use every piece of a couch as material for a new product. Other ways that we are able to recycle your unusable couch include reusing the sofa legs on other couches, using the poly-fill stuffing from inside the cushions to restuff cushions for other couches, and reusing metal or wood frames and braces to fix broken frames on other couches. We are also able to reuse electronics and mechanical pieces from reclining sofas on other couches.
This process is time-consuming and difficult to do well. For this reason, we do charge for couches that we know will need to go through this process. In order to know whether your couch qualifies for a free pickup or will need to be charged a recycling fee, fill out our pickup form above!
